Iâm in a classroom, sitting in front of the teacherâs desk, copying notes from a book. A shadow falls over the pages, and I look up. Terry Roberts is standing next to me, kindly looking over my work, smiling. Iâm terrible in math class, failing summer school even, and I have to stay after so she can help me catch up. The room is empty except for us; everyone else has gone home. I turn back to my work, at ease, convinced this is not the person. Walters has to be crazy to think this awesome, inspiring woman could kill a fly, let alone a student. Sheâs been nothing but helpful and supportive of me since I started summer school. And there hasnât been one murder since the last body was found.
Suddenly, I feel something slip around my neck. It goes tight around my throat and jerks me back and down. I feel my body hit the floor and being dragged. I claw at the nylon noose around my neck. But it tightens and I canât breathe. I feel like Iâm drowning, gasping and kicking out at anything.
I think I black out, because I feel myself waking up, and now Iâm on a table. At first Iâm confused because I donât know where I am. Itâs dark and cold. I look around and realize I must be in the basement somewhere. Roberts is trying to prepare something on a table. My hands are handcuffed and my feet tied with nylon pantyhose.
I see her preparing a syringe. Sheâs going to start drawing my blood, slowly, until itâs all gone. Iâm lying on my stomach, facedown.
I shouldnât be shocked, because I was sent in to bait her, but I am. Iâm stunned and devastated and scared. At first, I panic, try to scream, not realizing I have a rag stuffed into and duct-taped to my mouth. I can see Roberts preparing tubing and a bucket; sheâs going to drain all my blood. This woman who managed to gain my trust, who convinced me she was incapable of being a monster, is going to kill me. And she is going to make me watch.
I grab the metal ring of the handcuff on my right wrist and pull. The cuff is tight on my wrist, but what she doesnât know is that I am double-jointed and can rotate my thumb inward, flat against my palm. In defensive tactics in the academy, I used to piss off my cuffing instructors because no matter how tight they would put them on, I could get them off. I slip the cuff off and keep it open, like a hook.
While her back is turned, I start pulling at the nylons tying my feet together. She sees and jumps on me, screaming. I bash her in the face with the open cuff still attached to my hand, and she falls back. I struggle against the nylons, falling off the table, and they rip open. She jumps on me again, hitting and punching me.
